When I was a child, one of my most memorable experiences was joining Bina Iman Anak, a faith formation program for kids in my parish. At the time, I didn’t fully grasp the meaning of the activities, but I always felt happy whenever they took place. Looking back now, I realize that this experience was vital for my growth in faith, character, and friendship.
I joined Bina Iman Anak because I lived in the Samara community, one of the areas in the parish that frequently organized this program. Every month, children from my neighborhood came together to learn about God in a fun and meaningful way. My parents always encouraged me to participate, believing it would help me grow closer to God from an early age. At first, I felt nervous since I didn’t know many kids, but soon I found out that the atmosphere was friendly and the activities were truly enjoyable.
The goal of Bina Iman Anak was to teach religious values to children from a young age. However, the mentors made learning engaging. They used creative methods like stories, pictures, puppets, and simple props. I particularly enjoyed the Bible storytelling sessions because the mentors explained everything in a way that was easy for kids to grasp. The stories about Jesus, His disciples, kindness, and love left a lasting impression on me. Those tales helped me see that God’s teachings relate to everyday life.
In addition to storytelling, we sang joyful Catholic songs that carried positive messages. Singing together brought me closer to my friends. Sometimes, we practiced songs for prayer events in the Samara community, and I felt proud to contribute when we performed. We also engaged in creative activities like drawing, making crafts, and playing games that taught teamwork and honesty. These experiences helped me realize that faith is not just about praying but also about how we treat others.
Joining Bina Iman Anak allowed me to form closer friendships in my neighborhood. We shared stories, laughed together, and supported each other during activities. From these moments, I learned the true meaning of community, which is about helping one another and growing together.
The mentors also gave us small responsibilities, like preparing the room or handing out songbooks. Even though the tasks were simple, they made me feel valued and responsible.
Ultimately, my experience in Bina Iman Anak helped shape me into a better person. I learned about love, kindness, cooperation, and gratitude. These memories remain with me and are a cherished part of my childhood. This program taught me that faith can be simple, filled with love, and full of joy.
